Sick day

December 14, 2009

We made a trip to the emergency room on Sunday due to escalating stomach pain that Alexander had complained of for a few days. We emerged 10 hours later after x-rays, cat-scans, and numerous pain meds.  The doctor’s conclusion was that Alex has some sort of lower GI infection, and that he should get some rest, drink water, and take lots of antibiotics.

Needless to say, Alex(ander) and I haven’t done much work on the house since the last post.  Linda (Alexander’s mom), on the other hand, has been hard at work!  She spent much of Sunday uprooting some of our favorite plants (all of which we had previously purchased) from our duplex, and has replanted them along the side of the driveway at the new house. She also covered a huge hole in the floor inside one of the cabinets (ventilation?) with some makeshift flooring. Now we don’t have to worry about rats, and maybe even raccoons, crawling up from the crawlspace into our cupboards at night. Of course, she also took care of Alex and I at the ER, bringing us food, supplies, and news of the outside world.

In other news, the floor guys are starting to apply poly coating to the whole house today, and they will do the final coat tomorrow. We still haven’t decided whether to use satin or semi gloss for the final layer….but currently they are putting down layers of semi gloss. Any suggestions?

Satin all the way. Semi-gloss will sure look pretty when you put it down, but it a year or two it wont- especially with a dog. Satin does a much better job of hiding those scratches, and still looks great.
Semi-gloss in my opinion is what you should throw down when you are selling a house and won’t be using it. I would put satin down, then in a few years when ya sell the house, put a thin coat of semi-gloss on it to super shine it up and look nice.
