Preparing to Paint Again.

October 12, 2010

Sorry for the lack of updates.

We are still working on prepping the main room in our house for painting. The last two weekends have been spent sanding and patching holes in the plaster and wood trim.  I’ve included a couple photos of the room in its current state.  For those of you who haven’t been to our house: this is the room that you walk into upon entering the house.  It is also where we eat, and it’s our living room.  So, we are really truly living within a construction zone this month.

This picture is a close-up of a typical section of wall after it’s sanded.  You can see 4 different layers of paint, and the underlying plaster.   After spending hours patching individual holes and scratches that were spaced only inches apart, I finally decided to simply skim coat the entire surface of the walls with joint compound.  I did one entire wall this evening in about 30 minutes.  This will  definitely be my default plan from now on.  By this weekend, we’ll probably be ready to prime the wood trim and paint the ceilings.  By next weekend, we may actually have real (colored) paint on the  trim and walls!
