Garage Roof; Before and After

February 23, 2011

The roof is semi-officially-almost done.  An old picture shows the excellent shape it was in before we started…

And how it looks now!  We still need to shingles on the edges of the roof but we can’t really do that until it is nice and warm; so for now the roof is done.

If you kinda squint real hard you can imagine what it will look like with repaired and painted siding, new windows and doors, and the garden shed all fixed up.

So I probably won’t quit my day job to become a roofer, but I think I have a better understanding of the vagaries of roofing.  So, on to the next project!  What will it be?  Well, the first thing we have to do is try again on the back bedroom ceiling.  It turns out I’m not super good at mudding drywall joints so I have to sand everything down and try again.  Also, I am going to the permitting office some time this week or next and attempting to get permits for: converting the back porch/washroom into a bathroom off the back bedroom, renovating the existing bathroom, seismically retrofitting the foundation, and replacing the front porch.  The most difficult of these is the front porch as it requires drawings showing the foundation depths, rebar details, etc.  So that one may not get approved first go round.  Stay tuned for an update on what permits we get and what the next project is going to be!
