Demolition Derby

June 26, 2012

As the garage is now basically finished, we moved on to a few more projects.  One that has been in the works for a long long time is getting the back yard and the back of the house into shape.  Our plan is to put a deck on the back of the house and then a nice patio.  The first thing to do was to remove the stairs and random concrete walkways.  As much fun as that sounded like doing by myself, I decided that we should hire someone to come take it away.

So, when I got home from work yesterday they were just loading up the last bits of concrete, and we were left with a nice dirt patch!

While the concrete steps to the laundry room were not in any way supporting the room, it was still a bit scary to realize just how unsupported that room really is.

You may remember that my buddy Spencer and I tackled putting a bit of framing under that room as one of the first projects we ever did on the house.  While that fix was good enough for the time, seeing how bad it is from this side makes me a bit nervous.  Hopefully Alexandra and I will make some decisions on the fate of the laundry room soon.

In semi-related news, the same contractor who tore out the concrete should be back Wednesday to tear out the front pillars.  Hopefully without any portions of the house collapsing…  Stay tuned!
