Closet finished + slow deck progress

August 19, 2012

The closet in our bedroom has had to wait more than 2 and a 1/2 years for its makeover.  It’s a relatively large closet (for a tiny 1920’s bungalow) that is approximately 7×3 feet, and it has a little window to let light in.  We’ve been using it for clothes / bedding / misc storage since we moved in – despite a huge hole in the wall (duct-taped), a 6 inch diameter pipe going from floor to ceiling (no longer in use), and the general disrepair of the walls and window.  Below are some shoddy “before” pictures.  It’s tough to take photos of the inside of a closet!

We spent a weekend sanding and patching the closet walls, and then another weekend painting it.  This weekend Alex installed two rows of hangers (huge improvement over one row!) and a real light fixture, and then we moved our clothes back in.  We’re now able to fit two closets-worth of clothing into this one closet, which is pretty exciting.   Shoddy “finished” pics are below.

We’ve been in the midst of a protracted and unpleasant heat wave here in so-cal, which has prevented us from getting very far on the deck.  Alex has been working on it for a couple hours every weekday evening though, impressively.  As I write this, he’s putting the final board on the platform part of the deck, while I’m sitting on the deck enjoying myself.  I mean, er… I’m working hard at writing this post…
